According to BC Hydro, British Columbia contributed to a 1.8% overall reduction in electricity consumption during Earth Hour this past Saturday night. This got me thinking about how we can improve our conservation efforts. At Adrena LINE, we went through a “green” renovation this past winter with consulting from the CRD to come up with effective and measurable efforts that would allow our organization to move forward with contributing to an overall waste reduction strategy. We have established best practices internally that will contribute to our carbon footprint reduction.
We are currently formulating a “green” purchasing policy that will slowly phase out our non energy star rated, inefficient or non “green” cleaning products. Moving forward, our marketing materials will only be printed on FSC certified paper, which means that we have to be very selective with our partnerships for rack cards, media kits, etc. Any of our office technology going forward will be “Energy Star” models, which also includes our new water dispensers (see photo above). This one is a bit unique as we have painted it to look like a tree trunk to fit our theme of outdoor adventure.
We have formed a partnership with The Land Conservancy of BC to donate funds from our Annual Earth Day fundraiser. Additionally, we are giving money back to TLC via any of their guests that go on our tour. The TLC will then put a portion of these proceeds towards carbon credit purchases, which will go towards the preservation of our local land here on the island. These are only a few of our reduction measures. We wanted to share some of our progress to encourage others to move forward with making our area of the world a better place to live!
